Ah, Venice (Rainy Day 2)

Buenoserra my friends!  It was a wonderful, but very rainy day in Venice.  Ariel and I decided that we must really like Venice if we had such a good time in the rain.  Today was a jam packed day, but I will tell you the highlights!! We walked almost all of Venice (for the second time, thankfully we didn't have our luggage with us this time) and took in the sights.  We started our day at the Venice Accademia, the major art museum.....
Thanks Google for this Picture of the Accademia in the sunshine...
 This is just the ceiling.
Most of the artwork is religious.  I really enjoy that the Baby Jesus is referred to as "Bambino" in all the "Madonna and Child" paintings.
Parting of the Red Sea.  It looks pretty dramatic!

 The Annunciation
"'What the hell is this??' 'Don't worry, it's good.'"
Armida e Rinaldo

 Accademia Bridge in the rain!
 Basilica San Marco
Piazza San Marco

Ariel and I rocking our purple rain gear
 Doge's Palace
The Doges (rulers) of Venice controlled the city state from here.  Built during the 1300s!
Inner courtyard

 The Golden Staircase
24 karat gold...no big deal.
Not allowed to take pictures inside, but I snapped this quick one.  The globes represent the heavens and all the land.
Looking out from the Bridge of Sighs, the passage that lead prisoners of Venice to the dungeons.  This was their last look at freedom......

And the Bridge of Sighs from the outside.  Complete with gondolier!

 Rialto Bridge at night

Ah, Venice....

Ciao,
Allison
